Abstract
482,043. Drilling-machines. HARDYPICK, Ltd., and HURD, F. W. Sept. 23, 1936, No. 35640/37. Divided out of 482,133. [Class 83 (iii)] A machine having multiple tool spindles for operating devices for cutting slots in rock, coal, &c. has a main driving unit with a hollow tool spindle driven through gearing from a coaxial driving spindle, and a housing attached to the unit carrying a gang of hollow tool spindles driven through gearing from the hollow spindle in the main unit, said spindles being located in a single plane offset radially from the main spindle. An electric motor 3 is mounted in a casing 2 forming the main driving unit and has a hollow shaft 4 carrying a pinion 6 which drives a coaxial shaft 5 through a pinion 7 rotatable on a fixed pin 8, and an internally toothed wheel 9 on the shaft 5. A pinion 15 on the shaft 5 drives, through an idler 16, a gear 13 on a tool spindle 18 and the gear 13 drives similar gears on spindles arranged parallel to the spindle 18, all the spindles being arranged in a plane radially displaced from the shaft 5. Tool sockets 10, 20 are attached to the shaft and spindles, and the housing 11 which carries the spindles is preferably detachable from the casing 2. The Provisional Specification also describes a machine for cutting slots in rock, coal &c. which is described in Specification 482,133.
