481,128. Valves. BROWN, F. V. Sept. 7, 1936, Nos. 24381/36 and 11531/37. [Class 135] An easing device for plug cocks comprises a cam plate k mounted on the end of the actuating spindle y and adapted to co-operate with a corresponding fixed plate t. The plate l is secured in a recess in the casing by a screwed member h housing the stuffing box for the actuating spindle, lugs l<2> being provided to prevent rotation of the plate. The cam plate k which is secured to the spindle by upsetting the end or by forcing the plate into a groove in the spindle is provided with a pair of downwardly projecting lugs k; adapted to engage with lost motion unsymmetrically arranged arcuate slots formed in the closed end of the plug. The actuating spindle carries a tappet rod n adjusted by a screwed spindle p engaging a ball o to vary the lift imparted to the plug when during the initial movement of the handle m the projections k<1> in the plate k are moved out of the mating depressions in the plate l. In a modification radially projecting lugs working with lost motion in a transverse slot in the end of a solid plug co-operate with cam projections on a fixed plate. The spring e urging the plug into its seat rests in a shallow cup d of sheet metal inserted in the lower end of the hollow plug. In the case of a solid plug a ball bearing may be inserted between the plug and this spring abutment. According to the first Provisional Specification taper rollers may be inserted between the cam surfaces or taper rollers may take the place of the humps in one of the cams.
