Abstract

479,799. Airscrews. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., BARLOW. A. C., and YOUNGMAN, R. T. Feb. 25, 1937, No. 571]. [Class 114] An airscrew blade is formed from a mouldable plastic material reinforced by metal wires which at the root are secured to ferrules which in turn are secured to a sleeve on the blade root. The reinforcement comprises cables b sweated into ferrules e which are secured to the sleeve c by screws f. The wires may be single or stranded. In the latter case, the strands may be all the same diameter, or there may be a thicker strand in the centre ; also the thickness of the wires may be reduced at their free ends. The reinforcement may be located in the sleeve either before or after the plastic material is added.
