527,443. Airscrews. DEMETRIADES, H., J., and BAIRD, N. C. April 12, 1939, No. 11066. [Class 114] Propeller blades are made up of wires or strips 1 of flexible material such as metal, gut, or cord arranged close together in groups corresponding to the shape of the blades. At their inner ends the wires pass through channels in a boss 2 to a collar 4 keyed at 5 to the driving shaft 3. The outer ends of the wires may be secured to a cap of streamlined shape. A screwthreaded spindle 6 and runner 7 are employed for moving the collar along the shaft to reduce or enlarge the diameter of the propeller. Each group of wires may be carried by a base member angularly movable about the shaft 3 to vary the pitch of the propeller.
