[Class 100 (ii)] An intaglio printing-machine employing ink having a high volatile solvent is constructed so that the printing and impression cylinders and associated parts are completely enclosed in a casing which prevents escape of the solvent, the casing being constituted in part by the wall of a fountain for containing ink to be applied to the printing-cylinder 1. The cylinder 1 co-operates with an impression roller 2 and cotulterpressure rollers 3, 4, carried by a slide adjustable by screws 361 mounted in two side frames 17, and the roller 1 is inked by a roller 8 dipping in a fountain 9 forming part of the airtight casing. This casing is constituted by the bottom 12 of the casing and end walls 12<1> of same, also by a support 7 for the reciprocating doctor 6, by plates 13<1>, 13, and 132, 133, 135 of which the plates 13, 133 are pivoted to allow of access to parts of the machine. The casing also comprises upper parts 14, 142 and 141 (not shown) which are arranged to co-operate with feed-in rollers 24, 25 and a delivery roller 201 in an airtight manner, adjustable flexible plates 27, 28 cooperating with the rollers 27, 28, and a flexible plate 31 with the roller 201. A suction device 23, 33 is also associated with the delivery roller to draw off vapours which evaporate from the printed web. The bottom 12 of the fountain is adjustable vertically to permit of the use of rollers of different sizes, and it is held in position by wing nuts and bolts 18. The frames 17 constitute part of the airtight casing, and other packing plates and glands complete the closure. Specification 465,017 is referred to.
