Abstract

1,233,803. Rotary printing presses. W. MATUSCHKE. 26 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967; 24 Oct., 1967], No. 30407/68. Heading B6C. In a rotary relief press in which a web is printed on both sides during sequential passages through printing units 2 and 3, Fig. 1, each unit comprises an impression cylinder 9, a plate cylinder 6, inking mechanism 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, and a steel supporting cylinder 10 for the impression cylinder. The inking mechanism comprises a forme roller 14 which is continuously wiped clean by a blade 16 the surplus ink being returned to the fountain 11 through a conduit 17. In the inking apparatus of Fig. 2 the ink is automatically maintained at a level 24 in the bight between the roller 14 and an eccentrically adjustable roller 20 by a device 24 which actuates a pump motor 25. In a rotary offset litho press water and ink are supplied to the forme cylinder 32 by an inking roller 33 surplus liquid being removed by a blade 36 and conducted to a separator unit 40 through a conduit 35. The separated ink is returned to the ink fountain 38. The printing plates used in both machines are stuck to the plate cylinders which have smooth external surfaces.
