Abstract
479,671. Heating by chemical action. DREIDING, B. Aug. 16, 1937, Nos. 22483 and 22484. Convention dates, Nov. 24, 1936 and June 19, 1937. [Class 64 (ii)] Heat is generated by the action on aluminium foil, or a sheet faced with aluminium on at least one side, of stannous chloride in the presence of moisture. An intermediate layer which retards the penetration of moisture is provided. The aluminium foil may be faced on one or both sides with paper, or a sheet of cellulose fibre, wood meal or the like may be faced with aluminium powder. The stannous chloride,. or alternatively, stannic, cuprous or cupric chloride, may impregnate a sheet of paper which is moistened and applied to the aluminium sheet when heat is required. The method may be used for applying heat to hair in permanent waving, for thawing frozen water pipes, or for warming liquids or foods in bottles or tins. The intermediate layer may be provided with reaction-retarding substances, or such substances may be present in the sheet faced with aluminium.
