Abstract
306,279. Head, P. H. Feb. 13, 1928. Compound transparent sheets formed of united sheets of glass and celluloid or the like are sealed at the edges by heating the intermediate sheet with a wire or by the action of acid or caustic soda thereon. When dry, the edges are coated with lacquer or varnish with or without any desired colouring material. Nitric acid is stated to be suitable for cellulose acetate as the intermediate sheet and phenol for acetyl cellulose. When caustic soda is used the action is stopped by applying diacetone alcohol. When a heated wife is used, excessive burning is prevented by following with a cold wire. The acid &c. is preferably applied by means of a glass brush.
