Abstract

471,904. Compound glass. MEYER, D. March 11, 1936, Nos. 7367 and 7368. Convention dates, March 25, 1935 and April 17, 1935. [Class 140] Safety glass is made by uniting, without the use of heat, sheets of glass, one or more of which is coated with a polymerization product such as polyvinyl acetate, in the presence of a neutral liquid which does not dissolve or disperse the coating. Sheets of glass are coated with a solution of polyvinyl acetate, dried, and wetted by immersion or washing with an alcohol such as butyl alcohol or a hydrocarbon such as benzine, after which the wetted coatings are pressed together, e.g. by a roller. Cellulose derivatives, such as nitro-cellulose or benzyl cellulose, may be added to the polymerization. product. A thin layer of adhesive may be applied to the glass sheets before application of the polymer.
