Coating-processes. - Surfaces are coated by applying a solution of a phenol in furfural and exposing the coating to the action of a catalyst to harden it. The phenol is preferably a di- or polyhydric one such as resorcinol, and the solution may also comprise plasticizers such as tricresyl phosphate and a toughening agent such as cellulose acetate. Acids such as gaseous hydrochloric acid, bases &c. may be used as catalysts.
