[Class 93] Metallic designs are produced on the surface of a light metal, such as aluminium, by forming an oxide coating on the surface, covering the coating with a metal coating, printing a design using a resist ink, removing the exposed parts of the metal coating by means of a corrosive agent such as nitric acid, and removing the resist ; the oxide coating may be coloured before or after removing the resist. The metal coating may be applied by spraying, fusing, vaporizing, or by applying silver salts and reducing by exposure to light and development; in the last two methods, the metal layers may be strengthened galvanically.
