Abstract
479,597. Brakes. LANGDON, A. G. June 3, 1936, No. 15546. [Class 103 (i)] An external contracting brake the shoes 2, 3 of which are mounted so that they are capable of an accommodating movement transversely of the drum are operated by a member 22 which forces two abutments apart, and is mounted so as to be capable of an accommodating movement with respect to the abutments. The member 22 is a wedge pivoted on an operating lever 23 and operates the shoes by levers 18, 19 pivoted together at 20. The wedge and levers are shown in both applied and released position. Notches 24 in the wedge and corresponding projections on the levers hold the brake in applied position. The shoes are connected at the non-operating end by adjusting means comprising a bolt having opposite hand threads engaging nuts on the outer sides of lugs 'on the brake band. The engaging surfaces of the lugs are curved. Specification 457,094, [Group XXIV], is referred to.
