Abstract
479,471. Cathode-ray tubes. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. Aug. 7, 1936, No. 21860. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In a tube in which the beam is deflected magnetically in a region of low velocity, the beam is introduced into an accelerating field having equipotential surfaces convex to the screen through a tubular electrode maintained at the same potential as the negative end of the field. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the beam passes through a tubular anode 3 having an apertured spherical cap 4. The accelerating field is produced by a resistive coating 16 terminated by metallized portions 17 and 6 across which a potential drop is applied. The anode 3 is supported by an expanding ring contacting the coating 6. The beam is focused by the coil 8 which may be wound on the anode 3. A rectangular deflecting coil 20 is used. In a modification, Fig. 2, the beam is focused electrostatically by a ring electrode 11 inside thetube 3. A member 15 screwed into the recessed insulating collar 18 secures the tube 3 to its support 13, and the modulating electrode is also screwed into the collar 18.
