Abstract
479,401. Electrolytic condensers; electrodeposition of shellac; anodic coatings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 13, 1937, No. 10514. Convention date, April 14, 1936. [Classes 37 and 41] One electrode at least of an electrolytic condenser consists of film-forming metal provided with a current blocking film and an overlying film of electrolyte-permeable resin. Preferably an aluminium foil 4 is first conducted through a receptacle 1 containing a solution of a resin such as shellac in an alkaline aqueous solvent and a direct current is passed through the foil to a cathode 3 to cause a deposition of shellac. The foil then passes into an oven 6 in which it is baked at about 100-200‹ C., thence into a container 7 through an aqueous electrolytic. Where it is anodically filmed with oxide beneath the resin coating, and is finally baked in a second oven 10. For the shellac, a tree resin or a fossil resin may be substituted, and for the alkali in the resin solution the hydroxide, borate or carbonate of sodium potassium or ammonium may be used or mixtures of these. In some cases a plasticizer such as a soap or rubber latex may be added. Specification 465,299 is referred to.
