Electrolytic condensers. -An electrolytic condenser is provided with an electrolyte of jelly-like consistency which may be composed of sulphuric acid and sodium silicate. The container is made of material not readily acted on by the electrolyte and which is not a film forming metal; for example, in direct current circuits lead may be employed with sulphuric acid, and tin with other electrolytes so as to act as an electrode. The positive electrode 13 is preferably formed of tantalum and is spaced from the container 11 by a separator 12 made of insulating material, such as glass, porcelain or hard rubber. When used with alternating current, both electrodes may be of tantalum. The cover consists of a cork 14 preferably impregnated with paraffin and covered with a non-liquid sealing composition 15 such as paraffin. In an example, the electrolyte for a condenser employing a tantalum electrode consists of equal parts of 2 per cent sulphuric acid and a 10 per cent solution of sodium silicate.
