Abstract

482,548. Electrodeposition of resin films; condensers ; insulation. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 31, 1937, No. 9190. Convention date, April 1, 1936. [Classes 36, 37, and 41] Base metals or fabrics are coated with a film of natural resin such as tree-resin or shellac by treatment as anode in an alkaline aqueous solution of the resin. A plasticizing agent other than rubber latex, preferably hydrolyzed castor oil may be added to the bath ; flexible insulating coatings may thus be produced on copper conductors. Alternating current may be employed by using a rectifying counter-electrode, e.g. of aluminium. Shellac may be deposited on aluminium with simultaneous formation of an oxide film. Oil in which coated copper conductors are immersed is prevented from deterioration by' contact with the copper. Condenser plates so coated may be used with a smaller thickness of dielectric paper than is otherwise required. Specification 291,477, [Class 41], is referred to.
