Abstract
479,181. Roasting coffee. McCROSSON, J. T. June 5, 1937, No. 15669. [Class 58] [Also in Groups VI and XVII] In a method for processing coffee, the beans are roasted, cleaned, ground, and packeted, in chambers which contain the vapours emanating from the roasted beans, and to which entry of the outside air is prevented. Beans from a hopper 1 are fed by a rotary conveyer 2 into an oven 4, and roasted as they pass along towards a discharge pipe P, by means of a burner 7. Vapours given off by the beans are drawn through a pipe 8 to a condenser 9, wherein the water content is removed, and then pass through a filter 10 into a pump 11. The cleansed vapours are forced up a pipe 12, heated in the furnace 6 and pass back into the oven at a port 12<1>. The beans are cooled while passing through chambers 14, 15 by means of cooling tubes 16. Air-tight gates 17 are provided which are opened alternately to discharge the beans to a lower level.
