Abstract
529,969. Coking processes and apparatus. INTERNATIONAL FURNACE EQUIPMENT CO., Ltd., and BAILLY, L. June 14, 1939, No. 17368. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] Volatile constituents are driven off fuel briquettes by heating them in a closed chamber by the combustion of these constituents which are circulated through tubes adjacent to the briquettes. The briquettes are fed from a hopper d by a rotary shutter c to an endless conveyer b passing through the chamber a, and are discharged into a liquid seal e. Initial heating is by an oil burner g, the combustion products being circulated by a fan j through tube m, and. tubes h, i arranged between the upper and lower parts of the conveyer, a pipe p leading the hot gases to the atmosphere. The burner is put out of action when a temperature of 600‹C. is reached, and the fan now draws volatiles from the chamber a through pipes r, t, and burner chamber n, and circulates them through the tubes h, i together with air from inlet o. Combustion of the volatiles takes place in the tubes h, i which heat the briquettes. The combustion products and some of the volatiles are discharged through the pipe p.
