[Class 145 (i)] A pneumatic tube 10 forming the feedroller of a wood-planing machine is mounted on a flanged wheel or disc 8, the shaft 7 of which is carried in bearings 6 which are yieldable against resilient restraint to larger irregularities n the thickness of the material being fed. In the construction shown, the bearing 6 carrying the free end of the shaft is formed with a part extending beyond the face of the frame, through a slot or hole in which extends a rod 30 screwing into a tapped boss 32 on the frame. A spring 34 surrounds the rod, the upper end being restrained by lock nuts 35 and the lower end resting on the bearing extension. The bearing may thus move vertically under restraint of the spring 34, and the mean height of the bearing may be adjusted by the screwed rod 30, to suit the thickness of timber, without altering the compression of the spring. The bearing at the end of the shaft carrying the wheel is similarly spring controlled and adjusted, the means employed being however designed to allow the shaft to pass through it. A drive shaft 12 rotates the shaft 7 through reduction gearing comprising gears 12 ... 16 and a chain drive 22, the chain being taut when the shaft 7 is adjusted for the maximum thickness of timber.
