Abstract

478,210. Cooling systems for engines. HEINKEL, E. July 13, 1936, No. 19441. Convention date, July 12, 1935. [Class 29] An aircraft engine a is cooled by a liquid, e.g. glycol circulating in a closec cycle including a cool er c, which is coolec by an evaporating liquid, e.g. water, cir culating in a secon dary closed cycle in cluding a condense h. The primary cir cuit has a byepass conduit n controlled by a thermostatic valve e and the secondary circuit includes a valve f controlled by a thermostat or pressure sensitive device. The liquids are circulated by pumps d, i and are in counterflow in the cooler c. The cold part of the cooler may be used to cool lubricating oil in a circuit m. The system permits the use of a primary liquid of high boiling point and of a condenser h of light gauge metal for the lower temperature of the secondary liquid. The condenser may be in the wing of the aircraft as shown, or may be cooled by a further cooling circuit. Several secondary circuits in parallel may be employed.
