Abstract
477,860. Handhole frames and covers. MITCHELL, G. P. Oct. 9, 1936, No. 27399. [Class 107] [Also in Group XXV] Relates to floor, wall, and like plates and boxes of the kind comprising a cover-plate which is sunk flush with the ground, floor, wall, or other surface, and which has an aperture, with a lid therefor, for giving access to a gas cock, electric switch, or other service device situated beneath the said surface. According to the invention, the lid 11 is pivoted to the underside of the cover-plate 5 at a point 9 clear of the aperture 6 by means of a connecting member 10, and a slot or recess 14 is formed in the cover-plate to accommodate the member 10 when the lid is opened. The member 10 shown is pivotally connected both to the cover-plate and the lid, its ends being mounted upon pins or rivets which pass through pairs of lugs 8 and 13. A projection 15 on the lid is adapted to fit closely into the recess 14 when the lid is closed.
