Addition to 334,489, [Class 83 (iii)]. [Class 83 (iii)] Lathes.-The thread-cutting machine described in the parent Specification is modified by the longitudinal movement of the controlling sleeve and the tool. being derived from a cam, which has one groove having a pitch corresponding to that of the thread to be cut, and a second groove for the quick return movement of the tool. The sleeve 14 is reciprocated by an arm 52 having a cam follower 51 engaging a cam 50 on the shaft 6, and embracing the shaft 22 at its end 53. The sleeve 14 is rotated independently of the arm 52 for feeding the tool as described in the parent Specification. The groove 54 imparts to the tool a feed movement corresponding to the pitch of the thread to be cut, the final part of the groove giving a rapid return movement.
