[Class 83 (iii)] A machine for cutting right-hand screwthreads in which the tools o are arranged in a drum-type turret d rotatable about an axis parallel with that of the work spindle b is arranged so that the work spindle is driven in a clockwise direction (viewed from the workpiece end) and the tool rotated faster than, and in the same direction as, the work spindle for thread cutting, being held stationary or rotated at a slower rate for withdrawal. The work spindle is driven in a clockwise direction by gearing (not shown), and is carried in a headstock a which may be traversed longitudinally. Gearing l and a shaft k connect the work spindle drive to the threading spindle f of an indexable drum-type turret d. The clutch n allows the spindle f to be driven faster than the work for threading and a brake m slows this spindle down for withdrawal of the cutter from the work.
