Abstract

477,620. Sheet-delivery apparatus. TIMSON, E. A. July 10, 1936, No. 19194. [Class 100 (i)] In the delivery of printed or other sheets to a pile table, the movement of a sheet being delivered is controlled by devices engaging the sheet adjacent to its rear edge, such devices moving forwardly, then downwardly and finally backwardly before releasing the sheet. As shown the sheets are delivered from a printing-machine to the pile 5 by endless-chain gripper-mechanism 20, 21. Adjacent to the near edge of the pile is mounted the sheet-controlling mechanism comprising suction nozzles 1 mounted on brackets 3 carried by rods 4 attached at their ends to crank-pins 8 on discs 6 driven by chain-gearing 13, 14, 15. The nozzles 1 thus move in a circular path and their action is timed so that they first come into contact with a sheet a being delivered, a short distance from its rear edge, so that the sheet is drawn over the nozzles and pulled taut. At or about the time the grippers 20 release the sheet the nozzles 1 start on the rearward part of their movement and deposit the sheet on the pile against the rear stop 24<1>. Joggers may be attached to the brackets 3 or jogging mechanism similar to that described in Specification 407,434 may be employed.
