Abstract

477,229. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 32899. Convention date, Oct. 17. Addition to 462,429. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXVI] A supercharging compressor 28 is fitted between the carburetter and the engine and an unbalanced throttle valve 4 is fitted in the induction pipe and is arranged to close as the flow of mixture increases. The valve 4 is connected to a spring 6 the abutment 8 of which is connected by levers to a hand control lever 25 and a diaphragm 14 which is pressed against a stop 20 by a spring 17. ,Both sides 15, 16 of the diaphragm are connected by pipe 18 to the inlet 29 of the supercharger and the chamber 16 is connected to the outlet 27 of the supercharger. When the pressure in the outlet 27 rises above a predetermined value it compresses a bellows exposed to atmospheric pressure and opens a valve 24 whereby the diaphragm 14 moves to decrease the loading of the spring 6. The constant level fuel chamber 40 is connected by pipe 44 to the air inlet and a valve 42 is carried by a bellows 41 exposed to atmospheric pressure. For maximum power the lever 25 is proved so that the valve 31 is opened and the supercharger delivery pressure is allowed to act on the fuel in the chamber 40, and the valve 42 is raised thus increasing the mixture strength. Abutments 47, 48 are connected to the lever 25 and engage the lever 46 connected to the valve 4 in the extreme positions of the lever 25. In a modification, the supercharging compressor 28 supplies several carburetters and the valve 4 is mounted in the inlet of the compressor. The lever 25 is additionally connected to valves in each carburetter.
