[Class 20 (ii)] A polygonal shoring structure for mines, of the kind described in Specification 273,982, [Class 20 (ii)], wherein resilient packing is used between the ends of the abutting members, is modified for use at junctions or crossings, by the provision of auxiliary diagonal members to counteract pressures not fully resisted by the main shoring members. According to Figs. 1 and 2 (17107/36), the main members a are provided with shoes c which abut upon longitudinal resilient packing members e at the crown, and are supported at the sides by builtup chocks, and further resilient members d. Diagonal members g are also arranged to pass from the side supports to the centre portion of the packing member e, between two frames of transverse supports a and these members may be provided with separate shoes abutting against the shoes of the transverse members. Alternatively, the shoes c of the transverse members a may be furnished with additional lugs k to receive the ends of the diagonal' members. According to Fig. 2 (24937/36), the shoes 8 for the ends of the diagonal members are formed separately with lugs 9 and projections 10, 11, adapted to interfit in a recess 5 formed at the upper portion of the main shoe 2 which comprises two angle-bars 2 secured together and provided with curved flanges 3. The flanges at the recess are bulged apart to receive the projection 10 on the auxiliary seat 8 which may also be provided with an upper abutment 13 for the ends of other bracing members.
