Abstract
476,652. Knife-edge bearings. TOTH, S. March 4, 1936, No. 6546. Void. Convention date, June 5, 1935. [Class 12 (i)] A knife-edge bearing for precision apparatus, particularly for balances, comprises a knife-edge supporting plate and a supplementary component which ensures the central position of the knife-edge during swing and is preferably not loaded by the knife-edge pressure. As shown in Figs. 6, 7, the knife-edge 1 rests upon a plane bearing- surface 3 and extends into a V-shaped notch in a vertical plate 4. The edges of the notch are rounded or bevelled. The notch prevents lateral displacement of the knife-edge during oscillation. In a modification, Fig. 9, the plane bearing-surface 3 is secured to L-shaped brackets 7 resting on a knife-edged plate 5, so as to be self-aligning under the pressure of the knife-edge 1. The centring plate 4 is formed by the upstanding portions of the plates 7. Endwise movement of the knifeedge 1 is prevented by a plate 10.
