Abstract

426,434. Machinery supports. SYMONS, A. B., 12, Northumberland Park, Tottenham, London. Jan. 4, 1934, No. 335. [Class 80 (iv)] [See also Group XXII] A bed 1 is pivoted at one end on a pin 2 while the other end carries a hardened plate 7 slidable on a steel roller 9 so that the accuracy of the bed is not affected by change of temperature. The roller 9 is flanged at 13 and rests on a support 10 which is recessed at 15, to obtain a three-point support for the bed. The pin 2 and roller 9 are located along the bed in accordance with the " Airy " formula to minimize bending stresses. In a modification the pin 2 may rest in halfround or V-blocks or the pin may be replaced by opposed centres.
