Abstract

475,175. Endless-belt conveyers. ROGERS, J. N. O., CHARLTON, T., BAINBRIDGE, F., and WOOD & CO., Ltd., H. May 12, 1936, Nos. 25930 (divided application), and 25324. [Class 78 (i)] In mining-operations in which the workings extend laterally on each side of a main haulage way, a single belt conveyer is arranged to extend across this haulage way into workings on opposite sides, the upper run of the belt being used to convey material from one working to a common discharging conveyer or to separate conveyers or to trucks in the main haulage way while the lower run of the conveyer conveys material from the opposite working to the same discharging means. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which the carrying lower run delivers over a roller k to the discharge conveyer m while the material on the upper run is removed by a plough l and passes over a shoot n to the conveyer m. Numerous modifications are shown and described covering the removal of the material by different arrangements of plough and rollers and the duplication of the conveyer m or its replacement by a line of trucks. In addition the driving motor p for the belt may be arranged at either end of the belt or near the discharge point. In one modification the main haulage way is bridged at different levels to provide tracks for the two carrying runs of the belt and ploughs on the bridges divert both lots of material into trucks. In a modification of this last construction the bridges give an inclination to the belt so that the material rolls off sideways into trucks or on to a delivery belt. The end members g, h and the discharge unit f of the belt may be constructed as described in Specification 404,694. Fig. 9 shows troughing-means 27 for the upper rim of the carrying-belt with outwardly flaring edges 28 which enclose the lower run and divert spillage clear of the latter. The members 28 carry hooked portions 31 which fit over the framing 32 and also embrace studs thereon to secure them against the longitudinal displacement. Similar diverting-means are also shown fitted to a flat belt.
