Abstract

475,157. Securing worm wheels on shafts ; breaking - pieces. BRITISH, CELANESE, Ltd., KIMPTON, W. H., and FULTON, S. M. May 11, 1936, No. 13256. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iv)] [Also in Group IX] The drive to the shaft 210 carrying the cams actuating the doffing and donning mechanism of a pin winding machine includes a soft metal pin 215 which is sheared in the event of an overload being placed on the shaft 210, the pin engaging a slot 216 in the end of the shaft and being fixed in a flanged disc 214 held against the face of the worm-wheel 211, geared to the drive shaft, by spring catches 209. The flanged disc 214 is driven by the worm-wheel through pins 217 fixed in the wheel and engaging holes in the flanged disc and, in the event of the pin 215 being sheared, the disc may be drawn off the shaft, by a key engaged with a groove 218 in the disc, and a new pin inserted therein. According to the Provisional Specification, the wheel 211 may have a protuberance engaging a recess in a collar slidable on the shaft 210, shearing of the pin 215 causing the protuberance to jump the recess and push the collar along the shaft into engagement with a switch which closes a warning-light circuit.
