475,096. Trueing grinding - wheels. SOC. ANON. DE RECTIFICATION ET D'ENGRENAGES PROCEDES MINERVA. May 8, 1936, No. 13108. Convention date, May 17, 1935. [Class 60] A grindstone &c. is profiled by means of a diamond &c. which is guided by the use of a guide finger moving over a temptate, the effective guiding part of the finger having a shape substantially identical with, or similar to that of the diamond, and the shape being adjusted from time to time in accordance with variations due to wear in the shape of the diamond, &c. The grindstone 3, mounted on a spindle 4 is shaped by a diamond 9 carried by a holder 8 secured to a pin 7, which also carries a main guide finger 10 and an auxiliary finger 11. The pin 7 is rotatably mounted in two cranks 6 rotatable with but slidable on a shaft 5, and the device is moved by a handle 13 to carry the finger 10 over a template 2 in order to shape the stone 3. In order to shape the effective part of the finger 10, the stone is first profiled with the auxiliary finger 11, used as a guide, Fig. 3, and the finger 10 is then shaped from the profiled stone, still using the finger 11 as a guide ; the finger 11 is given a shape substantially identical with that of the diamond, by using the finger 10 as a guide to move the finger 11 over the stone. In another method of shaping the finger, this moves over the flat face of a grindstone, the diamond serving as a guide and moving over a flat face of a template lying in the plane of the stone ; a further method consists in moving the diamond and the finger longitudinally of the spindle 5 across the periphery of the grindstone so that the diamond cuts a groove therein, through which the finger is moved and shaped.
