491,589. Trueing grinding - wheels. HADDEN, J. B. Feb. 3, 1937, No. 3142. [Classes 60 and 124] A device for trueing a grinding-wheel &c. intended for grinding cutting-tools having a clearance angle, comprises a bracket 1 fixed to the machine frame and carrying, by means of a pivot pin 4, a bearing bracket 3. The bracket 3 forms a bearing for a pin 5 on a guide 6, on which a diamond &c. tool is slidable, the guide and tool being oscillated about the pin 5 to carry the tool across the grinding-wheel when forming curved surfaces thereon, or the tool holder being slid along the guide to true flat or straight surfaces. For trueing a wheel intended to grind a tool with a cutting edge of semicircular or part circular form a with a clearance angle b, Figs. 8 and 9, the guide 6 is set about the pin 4 to the angle b, the diamond tool 12 being carried by a holder 11, Fig. 4, adjustable on the guide, with the aid of a removable setting plate 13 held on the slide 6 by a nut 14, to give the desired convex or concave curvature ; for tools of smaller radius, the diamond is mounted direct in a post on the holder 11. For treating straight sided contours, for producing tools as in Fig. 11, the diamond is mounted in a holder 15 reciprocated on the guide by a link 18 connected to a pivoted arm 16, the guide being set angularly about the pins 4, 5. If required, a further angular adjustment may be provided by forming the bracket 1 in two parts pivoted together.
