[Class 138 (i)] In a windscreen - cleaner having one or more pivotally-mounted blades driven by means of a worm and worm wheel imparting movement to one or more racks, each rack driving a pinion that imparts rotary movement to a member on which a wiper blade is mounted, the pinion or each pinion is carried by a spindle detachably fitted to a cover plate for the rack casing, so that the pinion can be replaced by another pinion to vary the amplitude of movement of the blade. As shown, the blade g is connected to a shaft j which projects through bearings in the detachable cover plate b of a casing b2. The shaft has lugs l adapted, under the influence of a spring o, to engage slots m in the boss of a pinion f which meshes with a rack e. The rack is mounted on a block x supported on guides in the casing b<2> and formed with a slot h<1> engaged by a pin h which is carried by a worm wheel d. The worm wheel is driven by a worm a from electrical or mechanical means. The spindle j is provided with a thumb-piece n which is detachable for the purpose of removing the spindle from the cover b. The wip'er g can be disengaged from the drive when the thumbpiece n, is pressed inwardly and locked by the engagement of lugs q with recesses r formed in a collar s. The block x is provided with means for attachment of flexible or other connections such as t for driving additional wiper blades such as g<1>.
