Abstract

Windows and the like, cleaning. - A wind-screen wiper is actuated by a windvane which is adjustably mounted and may be operatively connected to the wiper so as to permit adjustment of the glass of the screen. As shown in Figs 1, 3, and 4, the shaft A of the wind-vane is provided with a worm B engaging a worm worm wheel C which is adapted, by a pin-andslot connection, to cause reciprocation of a shaft F. The wheel C and the shaft F are located in a box G fixed to the wind-screen and enclosed in a movable casing H, through which passes the shaft A of the wind-vane. The box G and the casing H are provided with slots M, K respectively, to permit adjustment of the windvane relatively to the shaft F. The end of the shaft A carries a plate provided with a tenon for engagement in a hole in the wind-vane, which is detachably secured in place by a spring engaging a circular groove formed on the shaft A. The movement of the shaft F is communicated to the wiper by a rigid or articulated rod, the end of which is formed as a circular rack Z, Figs. 9 and 10, for engagement with a pinion Y loosely mounted on a shaft X supporting the wiping element. The pinion Y has a projecting portion formed with a notch which is adapted to be engaged by a pin c on the shaft X, the pin being pressed into engagement by a spring b connecting the shaft to the wiping strip. A knob d is provided on the shaft X whereby the latter may be disengaged from the pinion Y and the wiper operated by hand. A wiping strip may be provided on each side of the wind-screen.
