Abstract
404,442. Windscreen-cleaners. MONK, R. J., 56, Perth Road, Wood Green, London. Nov. 29, 1932, Nos. 33776 and 37010. [Class 138 (i).] The driving spindle of an oscillatory windscreen-cleaner is provided with a detachable toothed pinion adapted to operate a rack rod by means of which a second or supplementary windscreen cleaner is oscillated. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the driving spindle a is provided with a hollow shaft b integral with which is a toothed pinion c arranged inside a casing d. A rack e fitted in the casing meshes with the pinion c. A wiper arm h is mounted upon the forward end of the shaft b, which is split longitudinally and is engaged by a screw i whereby the shaft b and arm h are fixed in place. The rack e is connected by a rod g to a rack e<1> mounted in a casing d and meshing with a pinion c<1>. The pinion is mounted on a hollow shaft b<1> which carries a wiper arm h<1> and is journalled on a bearing pin b<2> mounted in the windscreen frame. The wiper arm h is pivotally mounted on a pin k<1> inside a fork k which is engaged by a spring- pressed washer l, the spring m normally acting to press the wiper against the screen, but adapted also to hold the arm at right angles to the screen when it has been withdrawn to the position indicated in dotted lines. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the hollow shaft b of the pinion c is secured to the driving spindle by a screw o. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the arm h is clamped on the split end of the hollow shaft b by means of a split boss k tightened by a bolt p.
