Abstract
A cotton fabric is treated throughout or locally with a solution of viscose, immersed in a cellulose precipitating bath and then mercerized. The fabric may be treated with sulphuric or other acid together with wetting agents such as alcohol or glycerine before, after, or alternately with the mercerizing; before such acid treatment and preferably during the application of the viscose solution, the fabric may be treated with oxidizing agents and ester salts of leuco vat-dyestuffs; matting agents such as pigments may also be added. Reserves may be printed on the fabric before or after the treatment with viscose, and also before the acid treatment. In an example, a mercerized and partially bleached mousseline fabric is treated with a ripened 2--8 per cent viscose solution, squeezed, passed into a sodium sulphate-sulphuric acid precipitating bath, rinsed and mercerized under tension, rinsed, neutralized, bleached and dried.
