Abstract

474,147. Parallel rulers. DAVIES, A. E. April 27, 1937, No. 11965. [Class 97 (iii)] An instrument for copying drawings to scale comprises a pair of scales 4, 5, coupled for relative movement in parallelism and graduated respectively to correspond with the scale of the original and the scale of the reproduction desired. The scales 4, 5, which are graduated along both edges, are coupled by links 6 connected to suitable pivots 7 so that the zero points of the graduations on the inner edges of the scales coincide when the latter are in close contact. A set of interchangeable scales graduated to different ratios may be provided or interchangeable graduated strips of ivory, stainless steel or the like may be detachably secured to the scale beams, e.g. by the milled nuts 8 screwed on the pivots 7. The scale strips may have graduations falling along both edges of the beam and have the zeros at the same end. Additional pivots 7a may be provided to enable the positions of the scales 4, 5 to be interchanged.
