Abstract
472,675. Electric irons. CAMPANA, G. Feb. 9, 1937, No. 3873. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1936. [Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electric iron is provided with a supporting frame comprising two side members 7 connected by legs 5, 6 pivoted to the iron at the points 3, 4 and acted on by adjustable springs 11. The pivot shaft 4 also carries a forwardly projecting arm 9 which bears on the underface of a portion 16 of the handle which is pivoted to the main portion 15. On bringing the two handle parts together and grasping them in use, the frame is retracted ; on release of the handle the part 16 is automatically swung into the position shown wherein it supports the iron above the working surface. The portion 16 is provided with an extension 17 carrying a bridging contact 18 which completes the circuit to the heating unit at the contacts 20 when the iron is in use and breaks it when the iron is raised. The circuit may be completed, when the iron is raised, by the operator pushing in a button 22, the inner end of which carries a contact to bridge the contacts 20. When the two parts of the handle are again brought together the extension 17 pushes the button to the inoperative position, if it has been pushed in, and maintains the circuit itself.
