[Class 54] [Also in Group X] The space above the piston in a dry gas holder is ventilated by air inlet and outlet openings c divided by vertically extending bars f, f1 of U-section into narrow slots through which the air passes, and which prevent water of precipitation from entering the holder. The water trickles down the bars and is conveyed away by a sill g which forms the bottom of the ventilation openings. One set of openings is in the lantern d, and the other in the holder wall a. The bars may be made wholly or in part of glass, or may have glass insertions to illuminate the interior of the holder.
