Abstract

471,684. Rolling. BENJAMIN, R. March 6, 1936, No. 6845. [Class 83 (iv)] In cold rolling, especially of small flanged I &c. sections suitable, e.g. for toy railway rails, any tendency for the rail &c. to issue from the universal mill in a curve or twist is prevented by moving by the roll 8, so that it contacts further along the workpiece, the roll housings having adjusting screws 15 whereby adjustment of one screw causes the roll to pivot about the other screw to effect the adjustment. Adjusting both screws effects the usual roll approach or separation. The roll housings are rounded at their inner ends to allow clearance for the pivoting adjustment. The horizontal rolls 2 may be stepped, the vertical rolls projecting between the steps. The rail passes first through a pair of grooved rolls that act upon the flanges only.
