Abstract

509,944. Rolling. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A., THOMSON, T., and LOBKOWITZ, G. B. March 10, 1938, No. 7544. [Class 83 (iv)] Rolled ingots, blooms, and semi finished and finished metal products, e.g., channel beam and similar sections are produced by passing the work through a number of pairs of both horizontal and vertical driven grooved rolls, each roll pair being driven independently by its variable speed motor. The pairs of horizontal rolls 10 with various sized grooves 14, 15 and 16, have positioned behind them pairs of vertical rolls 9 also with various grooves 12, and either pair of rolls is movable vertically or horizontally to bring any groove opposite any groove of the other rolls. In Fig. 6, two pairs of vertical rolls 17, 18 each of fixed position operate with a single multi grooved horizontal pair of rolls 19 movable horizontally. A lay out of the plant comprises a blooming mill 1, shear 2, pairs of rolls 3 &c. rotary shear 6 and cooling beds 7.
