[Class 92 (i)] Relates to gun-elevating mechanism of the kind comprising an elevating shaft 10 which is geared with one or more elevating sectors 5, 5<1>. According to the invention, the elevating mechanism is fixed in the adjusted position by means of a device comprising a member 15 axially slidable along the shaft, and a member 16 rotatably mounted on the member 15 and adapted to impart the sliding movements thereto. As shown, the two members have a screwthreaded engagement and, when extended, bear one against the sector 5 and the other against the operating handle 13, thus fixing the elevating mechanism in the adjusted position. A handle 21. is provided on the member 16 to effect its adjustments. The shaft 10 passes through the cradle 2 and terminates, at one end, in a cross-piece 12 which fits in a radial groove in a washer 14. Teeth 11, 11<1> on the shaft mesh with the teeth 9, 9<1> of the sectors. The latter are pivotally connected to a slide 6 arranged for sliding movement on a transverse guide sector 7 carried by the rear legs of the tripod stand 1. A single sector may be employed in place of the two sectors shown and the teeth on the shaft may be connected by intermediate gearing to the teeth of the sector or sectors as distinct from the direct connection shown.
