Abstract
586,048. Binoculars. GLASSER, C. J. Aug. 8, 1944, No. 15049. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1943. [Class 97 (i)] Two pairs of polarizing plates, one before each eyepiece, are mounted to rotate about the same axis as the barrels for interocular adjustment, and one plate of each pair is rotatable relative to the other to vary the amount of light passing. The rotatable plates of each pair are connected to move together. As shown in Fig. 1, one pair of plates 6, 7 is mounted in a cup 16 attached to a sleeve hinge member 15 into which fits the hinge member 17 carrying a cup 18 supporting the other pair of plates 4, 5. The hinge members, held together by a screw 20, have an upwardly extending portion 21, Fig. 2, pivoted at 22 to a post 23 held by a spring-pressed plunger (not shown) so that, if desired, the post may be pulled forward against the action of the spring and the plates pivoted away from the eyepieces. The plates 4, 6 are held in rotatable cups 34, 33 which engage an endless cable 8, Fig. 2, attached thereto at 39, and crossing over at a pulley 35 so that anticlockwise rotation of the plate 4 produces clockwise rotation of the plate 6, spring-pressed pulley 36 providing tension on the cable.
