Abstract
471,109. Discharge apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 27, 1936, No. 2585. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] Mosaic electrodes such as double - sided photo-electric screens of cathode-ray tubes for television transmission are formed by coating a grid 12, Fig. 7, at least on its upper side, with electrically insulating material 16, distributing conductive elements 46 of area greater than the grid apertures 22 over the upper side as from a sieve 42, Fig. 5, and creating, as by a fan 38 in a chimney 36, a lower fluid pressure below the grid than above it. One element 46 is thus drawn into each aperture 22 and held there whilst surplus elements are brushed off. A binder is then applied to the upper side of the grid and the grid is baked to drive off the binder and soften the insulation 16 so that the elements 46 become partly embedded therein as shown in Fig. 7. The elements 46 may be silver spheres formed by spraying the metal into the air and are finally coated with photo-electric material on their upper surfaces. The grid apertures are open at their lower ends to expose the elements 46 to the scanning cathode-ray. The grid 12 is a flattened wire mesh or perforated plate. The mosaic is provided with a separate grid 30b .and mounted and used as described in Specification 471,137 In a modification, the grid 12 is coated only on its upper side so that its uncoated lower face serves as the grid 30b.
