Abstract
Artificial sausage skins are prepared by immersing a cylindrical mould in a solution of polyvinyl acetal, rotating the mould to reduce the film to substantially uniform thickness, solidifying, treating with water, stretching and drying in a stretched condition. Opaque skins are prepared by drying in a moist atmosphere whereas clear skins are prepared when the solvent for the acetal does not promote condensation of water because of its high boiling point. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers in general to the manufacture of sausage skins from a polyvinyl acetal. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
