Abstract
470,541. Kinematograph apparatus. LEVY, R. Oct. 9,1936, No. 27489. [Class 97 (i)] In projection apparatus in which a continuously moved film or image-bearing disc is intermittently illuminated, the intermittent illumination is produced by an electricallycontrolled optical value such as a Kerr or Faraday cell placed in the beam of a continuously operated projection lamp. As shown in Fig. 1, light from the lamp 12 passes through a condenser 20, a Kerr cell 18, 19 interposed between crossed nicols 16, 17, and a second condenser 13 to fall on the film 11. It is arranged that when the cell is unstressed, no light passes but on applying an electrical impulse by means of a valve system, light passes to the film, the electrical impulses being controlled in synchronism with the film feeding by current fed to the terminals 9, 10. Alternatively the light control may be effected electromagnetically by a Faraday cell, and the cell may be placed behind or in front of the film. As applied to the protection of kinematograph records carried on opaque discs the light-control system 55, Fig. 4, is mounted in an arm 57 having a projection lens 71 and which is guided over the rotating disc 70 by a pin 73 engaging a groove in the disc.
