470,169. Mixing-apparatus. STEVENS, A. H. (Rockwood & Co.) Feb. 6, 1937, No. 3612. [Class 86] Conches or mixing-apparatus consist of one or more troughs across which a number of conching tools reciprocate, the chocolate being fed at one end and discharged continuously from the other. The troughs 10, Fig. 1, are fitted with rollers 11 which are mounted in stirrups 36 and reciprocated from a longitudinal shaft 46. The troughs comprise granite floors 16, Figs. 7 and 8, which are grooved to mate with grooved rollers 11 ; the material is fed from a hopper 29 and discharges over a weir 28<1> which may be adjustable. Scrapers 56, actuated by chains 51, are moved to and fro to clear the curved ends of the troughs. The troughs may be arranged in banks, the material passing from the upper trough to the lower. Hot air may be supplied into the space above the troughs and the troughs themselves may be heated by steam pipes.
