Abstract

470,152. Extension ladders. CARBIS, S. H., CAMPBELL. J. G., and FARBISHEL, M.. J., (trading as ALUMINIUM LADDER CO.). Nov. 19, 1936, No. 31710. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1935. [Class 20 (ii)] An extension ladder comprises two sections 1, 2, the rungs 16 of section 2 extending outwardly beyond the side rails to engage slidably with channel - shaped guides 7 secured to the side rails of section 1. In the construction shown, the sections are made of metal and the side rails of each section are formed of T-bars 3 braced by gusset-plates 4. The gusset-plates of the section 1 carry the guides 7 and are perforated to receive the rungs 12 which are secured in position by expanding rings 15. The rungs of both sections may have longitudinal ribs to provide a good foothold. In a modification, the rungs are held in position by means of annular rings of channel section, which are forced on to the rungs and are disposed within the bulged bosses shown in Fig. 4, to which they are secured. In a further modification, the gusset plates are flat and carry sleeves which receive the rungs.
