Abstract

337,137. Fisher & Ludlow (1920), Ltd., and Ludlow, N. B. Sept. 20, 1929. Doors for passenger vehicles. -Frame members for vehicle bodies and other structures such as buildings comprise a metal hollow or partially hollow form in cross section with a filling of wood or the like the metal being provided with slots or apertures at least, two sides for the passage of nails &c. for securing panels, trimmings &c. As shown the frame members comprise metal channels 1 having a wood &c. filling 4 the channel being secured to the filling 4 by serrated edges 3, nails or other means. Apertures or slots 6 are provided on at least two sides to permit the passage of nails &c. for securing the covering or trimming. Fig. 6 shows one means of securing together longitudinal and vertical frame members the flanges of one of the channels being cut away to allow the other channel to be nested therein, lugs 18 being provided by which the two channels may be secured together by rivets &c. To permit of bending the filling may be provided with a number of saw cuts. Substantial frame members such as that of doors are formed by channel members 1 riveted back to back, Fig. 3, each channel having a filling 4. The transverse members of the doors are if necessary provided with slots for the passage of the window and are secured to the uprights by lugs and rivets.
