[Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] A partition 32, Fig. 1, between furnace gas passes 20, 24 in a water-tube boiler is connected to independent side wall sections 78, 80, Fig. 6, on opposite sides of the partition by sliding gastight joints. A partition forming gas passes above the boiler tubes 193 is cooled by water tubes 34 and is welded at its ends to water tubes 46 carrying angle irons forming sliding joints with angle-irons on the ends of the side wall sections. The tubes 34, are connected to the downtake headers 114 and the tubes 46 are connected to the mid drum 116, both tubes 34 and 46 being connected at their upper ends to a header 118 extending along the top of the partition and communicating with the boiler drum 120 through circulators 122. The tubes 46 are welded by pins to the side headers 114 and each have a further pin 170, Fig. 12, forming a sliding gas-tight joint with the sidewall sections. The spaces between nipples 178 connecting the headers and the drum 116 are closed by overlapping pins 182. The side wall sections are so supported and jointed horizontally as to allow vertical expansion.
